Small Business Saturday on Grand Island

Small Business Saturday will take place Nov. 28 on the Island.

The day dedicated to supporting small businesses across the country. Founded by American Express in 2010, this day is celebrated on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Small Business Saturday was started by American Express in an effort to embrace a new holiday shopping tradition of supporting small businesses. The first-ever Small Business Saturday took place Nov. 27, 2010. Since then, the day has grown, with an estimated $14.2 billion spent on Small Business Saturday in 2014.

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, as of 2014, small businesses nationwide accounted for 63 percent of net new private-sector jobs created, and for every $100 spent at a small business, $68 returns to the community through payroll, expenditures and taxes.
