Festival of Lights begins in Niagara Falls

The public is invited to join in celebrating the kickoff to the holiday season as the Hyde Park Festival of Lights flip is switched on for the season.

Tonight's opening ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Sal Maglie Stadium parking lot on Hyde Park Boulevard with a short program featuring Gaskill Middle School's choir Santa. Park Lighting and a Fireworks Display follow at 6:15 p.m.

Tim Hortons will provide free hot cocoa and Timbits.

The lights remain on in Hyde Park through Dec. 31. More than 40 displays are lit from 5-10 p.m. each day and are free to view. Families will be able to drive or walk a stretch of enchanting winter wonderland displays. Additionally, free carriage rides are offered from 6-8 p.m. each Tuesday.

"The "Festival of Lights" is presented by the Winter Wonderland Project, United Way of Greater Niagara and the City of Niagara Falls.
