With the holiday season upon us, things are in full swing at Heart, Love and Soul in Niagara Falls. The agency's Thanksgiving food drive will lead up to its Thanksgiving meal today.

Getting ready for Christmas, Heart, Love and Soul volunteers will collect toys for local children, hold a Christmas food drive and finally a Christmas meal the Monday before the holiday.

Sister Beth Brosmer, executive director at Heart, Love and Soul, sat down with NFP to discuss all that goes into these activities and events, and to share what people can do to help out and volunteer.

In addition to all the extra events going on during the holiday season, Heart, Love and Soul serves breakfast and lunch daily. Other services provided include hair washes and cuts from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Monday. The agency also offers podiatry care for anyone in need.

Cooking classes have begun here with the help of Cornell Cooperative Extension. Participants will mainly use ingredients that are healthy and can be found in the food pantry.

"For instance lentils. Lentils are an extremely high in protein, healthy food item, but a lot of people don't know what to do with them," Sister Beth said.

This way, students who take place in the class can learn how to provide good and healthy meals at home.

More to look forward to with the warmer weather is "Art and Soul" week, where a teacher comes in and teaches participants to paint or do various other projects. During the summer, there is a camp for children that takes place at Niagara University.

Heart, Love and Soul is located at 939 Ontario Ave., Niagara Falls. For more information, call 716-282-5687 or visit www.heartloveandsoul.org
