Local artists invited to submit designs to decorate northern end of HARBORCENTER property

HARBORCENTER today announced a public art contest in which artists are invited to submit designs to be displayed on the northern end of the property. Officials are seeking an artist who will create a design that pays tribute to the history of downtown Buffalo, and its importance on the Erie Canal. The winning submission will cover the loading dock doors on the "front" of HARBORCENTER, highly visible from the replica canals and One Canalside.

"We are launching this contest to honor our area's rich art community," said Frank Cravotta, Pegula Sports and Entertainment's executive vice president of creative services. "Western New York has many supremely talented artists, and we would like to partner with one to showcase a design that commemorates Buffalo history, and adds a visual element to the Canalside district. This is an outstanding opportunity for a local artist to increase his or her exposure and create a design that will be an icon downtown for years to come."

Local artists are encouraged to produce artwork that pays tribute to Buffalo's history, especially its role in the creation of the Erie Canal. The winning design will be displayed over the loading dock doors on the north end of the HARBORCENTER property, along Scott Street between (716) Food and Sport and Tim Hortons Café & Bake Shop. The area encompasses approximately 30 square feet of surface area.

Interested artists are invited to submit their designs online at www.HARBORCENTER.com. The deadline for submissions is Nov. 30. HARBORCENTER officials will select the top designs for a public vote that will follow. The winning artist will receive a $1,500 cash reward and One Buffalo prize pack.
