Mayor's proclamation comes on one-year anniversary of Terry and Kim Pegula's purchase of the Bills

Buffalo Mayor Byron W. Brown will officially declare Thursday, Oct. 8, as "One Buffalo Day" with a proclamation as part of the Buffalo Sabres opening night "Party in the Plaza."

Brown will join Kim Pegula to make the proclamation on at 5:30 p.m. in First Niagara Center's Tops Alumni Plaza.

"As the City of Buffalo continues to experience a significant economic resurgence that's creating new jobs and spurring additional investment, we must continue to stand united as One Buffalo," Brown said, encouraging citizens to join the more than 3,200 citizens and 132 businesses and organizations in signing the City of Buffalo Opportunity Pledge as a show of support for One Buffalo Day. "With over $5.5 billion in economic development projects citywide, including HARBORCENTER, Solar City, continued growth on the medical campus, the emerging Canalside district, a bright future for Main Street, and communitywide pride in the Bills and Sabres, it's more important than ever that we continue to build a city of opportunity in Buffalo where every individual and business owner benefits from our city's rising prosperity.

"I thank Terry and Kim Pegula for supporting this effort as we celebrate our city as 'One Buffalo.' "

"One Buffalo Day" will be celebrated on the one-year anniversary of Terry and Kim Pegula's purchase of the Buffalo Bills, which solidified the franchise's long-term future in Western New York. Its proclamation also comes as part of the Buffalo Sabres 2015-16 opening night festivities, leading up to the team's 7 p.m. faceoff with the Ottawa Senators at First Niagara Center.

The One Buffalo initiative was officially unveiled by Kim Pegula on Oct. 12, with the intention of bringing the Western New York community together as one and providing a deeper connection between Buffalo sports teams, fans and the community.

"Our community is moving together in one direction," said Kim Pegula, president and CEO of Pegula Sports and Entertainment. "We are very excited to join Mayor Brown in celebrating that. Since we arrived in 2011, Terry and I have been very optimistic about the future of Buffalo. We are proud to be playing a role in our city's redevelopment at a time when our community has never been closer together. With the support of this outstanding community, we believe that Buffalo's best days are ahead!"

Brown's proclamation will take place on the main stage of the "Party in the Plaza." The event is free and open to the public. Tickets are still available for the Sabres game and can be purchased online at www.Sabres.com.
