Public is invited to explore the modern issues of sustainability and community development through the capabilities of public art

Artpark & Company has announced two special presentations with visiting guest artists followed by a Q&A. Events will take place at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 29 and Nov. 12 at the DeVeaux Woods Park Conference Center.

On Thursday, Oct. 29, Artpark is pleased to welcome back the original Artpark artist from 1976, now internationally acclaimed, Mary Miss, who will present her work on: "Parks as a Living Laboratory: a Concept for a 21st Century." This concept has evolved into "City as Living Lab (CaLL)" now being used and explored in New York City, Beijing, Delhi and others. It's a framework for making issues of sustainability tangible through collaboration and the arts.

The public is invited to attend this rare opportunity to meet the artist and ponder the ways in which parks and community can progress together during the 21st century and into the 22nd. The presentation is followed by a Q&A. Find more on Mary Miss at www.marymiss.com.

"Land Art Generator Initiative," an international competition for public art projects promoting the ideas and renewable energy technologies innovation, will be the presented Thursday, Nov. 12, by founding co-directors Robert Ferry and Elizabeth Monoian. The initiative brings together artists, architects, scientists, landscape architects, engineers and others in a first-of-its-kind collaboration to develop design and construction plans for public art installations that uniquely combine aesthetics with utility-scale clean energy generation.

LAGI states art has the proven ability to create movements and stimulate creative dialogue. The artist community has long taken a critical approach to the problems of energy use and production, which has helped to open the public eye to the severity of the problems facing society.

The presentation will be followed by a Q&A. For more information about the project, visit www.landartgenerator.org.

DeVeaux Woods State Park is located at 3180 DeVeaux Woods Drive East, Niagara Falls.
