Program features songs from popular musicals

The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, in partnership with actors and organizations from the Buffalo theater community, will present "The Best of Broadway" at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, at Kleinhans Music Hall, 3 Symphony Circle Buffalo. Event proceeds benefit Give for Greatness, a program of Arts Services Initiative of Western New York.

"The Best of Broadway" is a non-ticketed concert offering general admission seating for all patrons. Voluntary contributions will be collected starting at 6 p.m. in the Kleinhans Music Hall lobby. The program will feature the BPO and top regional theater actors performing songs from well-known musicals such as "Candide," "Chicago" and "West Side Story."

"Witnessing this fabulous orchestra and Western New York's talented theater professionals performing at Kleinhans for simply a suggested donation is a great community event," said Randall Kramer, MusicalFare Theatre executive director and the emcee of the evening. "This promises to be a wonderful way to celebrate the close of the 2015 Curtain Up! Weekend."

Give for Greatness events raise needed funds to assist in the operational support of the region's arts and cultural organizations.

"In 2014, we were able to provide 15 small and emerging cultural organizations each with $1,000 grants, but the need was far greater," ASI Executive Director Tod A. Kniazuk said. "With donor-supported events such as this, we can enjoy a memorable evening of music while making a difference for our cultural community and helping even more deserving groups in 2015."

"The Best of Broadway" has been made possible through the generosity of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Kleinhans Music Hall, Musical Fare Theatre and additional sponsors.
