Hundreds of roller coaster enthusiasts are preparing to visit Grand Island as part of the American Coaster Enthusiasts national conference.

A planned 117 roller coaster experts will descend upon upstate Aug. 14-16 and visit three of the region's parks, including Martin's Fantasy Island. Roller coaster aficionados from 23 different states, as well as attendees from Canada, will start at Darien Lake, continue at Seabreeze Park and conclude at Martin's Fantasy Island. The American Coaster Enthusiasts have two national conferences a year, in addition to one weeklong annual convention.

Martin's Fantasy Island will serve as the final host to the event on Sunday, Aug. 16.

"When the park added the Silver Comet in 1999, they tried to capture the spirit of a true wooden twister found in the Golden Age of roller coasters," says ACE President Jerry Willard. "They really succeeded on this level. Silver Comet will make for a great finale to our weekend conference."

Members will enjoy behind-the-scenes tours and privileges such as exclusive ride time before and after the parks open during the summer conference.
