The 30th annual Great Lakes Beach Sweep is Saturday, Sept. 19. The Aquarium of Niagara is coordinating the Niagara County portion of this large-scale environmental cleanup from 10 a.m. until noon.
The event focuses on Fort Niagara State Park and the Four Mile Creek area in Youngstown.
The beach cleanup is a global effort - and part of the Aquarium of Niagara's mission to conserve oceans and protect this world.
"This project is the world's largest volunteer data gathering effort on behalf of the environment," said Jeanette Brunner, supervisor of education. "It helps educate people about the importance of protecting the environment for the future generations."
Worldwide, more than 500,000 people each year conduct cleanup activities around every body of water.
Those looking to participate should meet at the Fort Niagara parking lot in Youngstown. For more information, contact Brunnner at 716-285-3575, ext. 209. In Erie County, contact Sharon Trembath at 716-549-4330.
