Registration opens for NT exercise programs

The North Tonawanda Department of Youth, Recreation and Parks has announced a number of upcoming exercise programs.

•The department is now accepting registration for the next body conditioning exercise session. The classes will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on six consecutive Mondays from Sept. 14 to Oct. 26 at Ohio Elementary School, 625 Ohio St.

The cost for the six classes is $18 for residents and $21 for non-residents.

The body conditioning class includes low-impact aerobics, spot toning and stretching exercises that burn fat, strengthen muscles and improve flexibility. Participants are asked to bring with them 1-, 2- or 3-pound weights and a floor mat.

•The department is also accepting registration for a hall-walking program. The session is offered 4 to 9 p.m. Mondays through Fridays from Sept. 14 through Dec. 11 at North Tonawanda Middle School, 1500 Vanderbilt Ave. The cost of the program is $15.

Participants can walk at their own pace in a dry and warm environment. Walking is cancelled when school is closed.

•The department is accepting registration for the next Pilates session. The classes will run 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays from Sept. 16 through Oct. 21 at Drake Elementary School, 380 Drake Drive.

The cost for residents is $18 per session and $21 for non-residents. Participants are asked to bring a floor mat.

•The department is accepting registration for the fall tai chi session. Classes will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from Sept. 15 to Oct. 22 at Ohio Elementary School, 625 Ohio St.

The cost for residents is $36 per session and $42 for non-residents

Tai chi is an exercise for better health and relaxation through slow, even movements that can be practiced by all ages. Loose, comfortable clothes are recommended.

•The department is accepting registration for Zumba exercise sessions. Classes will be held from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays from Sept. 14 through Oct. 26 at Ohio Elementary School, 625 Ohio St.

Zumba is an aerobic workout combined with a fusion of Latin and international music. The cost of the program (12 classes) is $36 for residents and $42 for non-residents for each session.

•The department is accepted registrations for its new core fusion body sculpt exercise session. The classes will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays from Sept. 16 to Oct. 21 at Ohio Elementary School, 625 Ohio St.

The cost for residents is $18 for all classes and $21 for non-residents.

Full payment is required to register for programs. Registration will be accepted at the recreation office, 500 Wheatfield St.
