Cornerstone CFCU held its second "Causal for a Cause" summer fundraising drive. This year, participating employees made a donation and nominated a charity for the opportunity to wear jeans on Fridays during the summer.

With majority of the staff participating in this fun way to support the community, $2,200 was raised and the money was split between two randomly selected local charities.

Employees Ann Hood and Pat McCabe nominated Lockport CARES. Lockport CARES operates an emergency homeless shelter serving the needs of greater Niagara County as well as a separate transitional housing and recovery program for men (Kahler House) located in the City of Lockport.

Employees Nancy Baes and Mary Scheib nominated the Sister Mary Loretto Soup Kitchen, also located in Lockport. The Sister Mary Loretto Soup Kitchen is run out of the Lockport Salvation Army at 50 Cottage St. Maj. Jose Santiago of the Salvation Army said the soup kitchen serves 110-120 meals each weekday and 100 percent of the money donated to the soup kitchen goes to providing meals. That's about 30,000 meals a year to the less fortunate within the community.
