Starting Sept. 1, Margaret Brant and Ruthy Warda are walking all the way from Lockport to Albany - more than 400 miles. The dynamic duo will donate funds raised to help support Lockport CARES, the emergency homeless shelter on Genesee Street.

The trip will take about 25 days, each day covering between 10 and 20 miles, with stops at the end of each day across Central New York.

Warda, originally from Costa Rica, has walked some of the world's most beautiful places, including Kilimanjaro and Machu Picchu. She walked 540 miles on a single trip in Spain.

Brant and Warda said, "We wanted to choose a good cause, someplace where others really benefit. We are honored and humbled to help.

When asked about sleeping at night, Warda said, "By the time you walk all day, you can sleep on a rock!"

Each walker will carry a small backpack with only one change of cloths (between 9 and 14 pounds total).

Many of the homeless come in with just that amount of belongings.

Come join them as they begin their epic journey at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, from the parking area next to Cold Springs Bridge. Be sure to follow them on Warda's Facebook page. Donations can be made in person at the "Up the Lake Shop" located on the Olcott boardwalk weekends in September, or online at www.lockportcares.org using credit card or PayPal.

Brant and Warda will ride a train back from Albany at the end of September.
