Men and women of all ages will compete over four days in singles, doubles and mixed-doubles play

More than 150 people have registered to participate in the first Chestnut Ridge Summer Classic Tennis Tournament, scheduled to take place starting today and continuing through this weekend at Chestnut Ridge Park in Orchard Park.

Organizers plan to use all 12 tennis courts at Chestnut Ridge Park for the tourney, which will see men and women compete over a four-day period in singles, doubles and mixed-doubles action.

"This event is shaping up to be not only a busy one, but larger than we originally expected," Erie County Commissioner of Parks, Recreation & Forestry Troy P. Schinzel said. "This is a good thing and something we are very excited about. With the weather forecast looking favorable, we are looking forward to hosting what we expect to be an annual event at Chestnut Ridge Park that will help showcase our renovated tennis courts."

Thanks to a recent capital improvement project, all 12 tennis courts at Chestnut Ridge Park were completely resurfaced, repaired, painted and fitted with new hardware, nets and posts. The tournament will feature men and women of all ages and skill levels for singles, doubles and mixed-doubles play. Each player is guaranteed two matches, with winners being determined by best of three sets. First- and second-place trophies will be awarded and complimentary food will be provided to participants.
