Congressman Chris Collins held a press conference Tuesday at Hamburg Lakeshore Overseas Veterans Post 1419 to promote H.R. 2218, the REVAMP Act. Introduced by Collins, the REVAMP Act would grant veteran organizations access to federal funding for vital maintenance and needed improvements to veteran halls and posts.

"Ensuring our veteran organizations have the resources needed to maintain and improve their facilities is the least we can do in return for the service they have given to our country," Collins said. "I want to thank Legislator Lynne Dixon and the members of Post 1419 for joining me to promote this vital legislation, which will help assist posts like the Hamburg Lakeshore Overseas Veterans Post 1419."

"I want to thank Congressman Collins for his leadership in introducing the REVAMP Act," Dixon said. "Earlier this year, the Erie County Legislature unanimously approved a resolution in support of the act, urging Congress to approve it. We should do everything we can to ensure that our veteran organizations have access to funding for maintenance and improvements of meeting halls and posts."

The REVAMP Act allows organizations that are classified by the IRS as 501(c)(19) nonprofit organizations and comprised primarily of past or present members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their family members to be eligible for funding through Community Development Block Grants. This legislation does not add to the deficit. The REVAMP Act uses existing CDBG funding and simply makes veteran organizations eligible for that funding.
