Guests encouraged to "Stuff-a-Bus" with donations for Community Missions

Fire trucks and police cars and buses, oh my! It's time for Old Falls Street USA's annual "Touch-a-Truck" event, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8. The afternoon allows children and their families the opportunity to climb into a variety of municipal and maintenance vehicles to see how they operate. "Touch-a-Truck" is held on the middle block of Old Falls Street USA, in downtown Niagara Falls, and is free and open to the public.

This year's event will incorporate the annual "Stuff-a-Bus" food and toiletry drive, benefitting Community Missions of the Niagara Frontier. Guests are asked to bring donations of nonperishable food items and new toiletries with them to place onto a bus, provided by the Niagara Frontier Transit Authority.

"Old Falls Street USA is happy to partner with local law enforcement and other organizations to host 'Touch-a-Truck' for the sixth year in a row," said Spectra's Jason Murgia, general manager of Old Falls Street USA. "This year we are featuring our charitable 'Stuff-a-Bus' food drive and our 'Free Family Fun' programming, which really makes this a community-wide effort."

"Touch-a-Truck" is a concept that is held in many municipalities throughout the country in order to allow children to interact with not only the vehicles themselves, but also the first-responders and street technicians who operate larger-than-life trucks on a daily basis. In addition to the NFTA bus, guests can enjoy interacting with vehicles from the Niagara Falls Police and Fire departments, the City of Niagara Falls, New York State Park Police, Rural Metro Ambulance, Niagara County Sheriff's Office canine unit and the U.S. Postal Service, among others (schedule subject to change).

In addition to vehicle interaction, children will be able to enjoy a free bounce house, a book sale benefitting the Friends of the Niagara Falls Public Library (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.), music by D&B Karaoke and DJ (noon to 3 p.m.), arts and crafts with Explore and More Children's Museum (1 to 4 p.m.), and Old Falls Street's "Backyard Board Games." The F-Bites Culinary demonstration also will be featured from 11 a.m. to noon.

Anyone wishing to make a donation to the "Stuff-a-Bus" food and toiletry drive prior to this time should call 716-278-2100 or bring items to The Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls (101 Old Falls St.) during normal business hours.
