When Grand Island celebrates National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 4 in the Marion Klingel Town Commons, Islanders will have a chance to meet and greet their neighbors, but also mingle with members of the town's Traffic Safety Advisory Board.

The board members will be on hand at the event from 6 to 9 p.m. to listen to residents' concerns and hear ideas to make the Island a safer community. The board will present law enforcement information, regulations on the operation of motorcycles, bicycles and paddle sports, and safe boating information with instructors on hand to answer questions.

Included in this year's event is The Convincer, a machine that simulates a low-speed accident in an effort to convince people of the need to wear seat belts.

National Night Out will include special events, displays and safety handouts. It coincides with the town's free Tuesday concert series in the Rotary Gazebo.
