Public meetings to focus on issues important to seniors

The Erie County Department of Senior Services has announced two upcoming public hearings designed to give area seniors, their families and caregivers, and community agencies an opportunity to discuss what matters most to them as they age. The first hearing will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Cheektowaga Senior Center. The second will be held from 2-3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the American Red Cross.

"I encourage seniors and family members to plan on attending one of the upcoming hearings and joining the discussion about what is important to them as they age, as this can help to shape our programs, services and environment in the future," Senior Services Commissioner Randy Hoak said. "This input is invaluable when we are planning with the NYS Office for the Aging, so as many perspectives as possible are welcome."

Erie County Senior Services personnel will be on hand at both hearings to listen to concerns and ideas about senior programs, ideas for future services, and any potentially unmet needs before finalizing the input and submitting plans to the state Office for the Aging.

Ginny Krebs, chairwoman of the senior services advisory board, will act as moderator for the hearing. She'll input what is especially sought after from seniors, caregivers and community agencies serving the senior population.
