St. Timothy Lutheran Church was filled to near capacity for a free concert July 21 presented by the Grand Island Community Chorus.

Called "A Night at the Movies," the concert provided a night of Hollywood songs performed by Island friends and neighbors at St. Timothy Lutheran Church.

The chorus, under the direction of Carolyn Lokken with accompaniment on piano by Kathy DeGlopper, presented nine songs during the evening: "Consider Yourself" from "Oliver"; "Somewhere, My Love" from "Doctor Zhivago"; "It Might As Well Be Spring" from "State Fair"; "Till There Was You" from "The Music Man"; "Down to the River to Pray" from "O Brother Where Art Thou"; "Over the Rainbow" from "The Wizard of Oz"; "Look to the Rainbow" from "Finian's Rainbow"; "The Wind Beneath My Wings" from "Beaches"; and "Ain't Misbehavin'" from "Stormy Weather."

Highlights of the concert were featured performances by Natalie Baldassarre, Allison Donahue and Kourtney Hoppel in "Till There Was You"; Baldassarre, Chris Mongielo, Paula Cramer, Roseanne McKee, Jodie White and Nathan Link in "Down to the River to Pray"; and Kathy DeGlopper and Kathy DeLoughry in "Look to the Rainbow."

Another favorite was "Over the Rainbow," which Lokken said was cut from two scenes in "The Wizard of Oz" before it was returned to one.

Money raised from free-will donations support the chorus' scholarships for Grand Island students who plan to study music in college.

Members of the chorus include: Paula Cramer, Kathy DeLoughry, Lisa Dixon, Allison Donahue, Joan Murray, Candy Padowski, Sharon Watz, Gary Dixon, Chris Mongielo, Louis Pease, Dave Thompson, Nathan Link, Reg Schopp, Jim Watz, Tom Wiswall, Natalie Baldassarre, Sue Blanton, Lucille Gervase, Jilliann Holody, Kourtney Hoppel, Mary Ellen Manuszewski, Roseanne McKee, Jeannette Pease, Jeanne Suski, Betty Walk, Jodie White and Dorothy Wiswall, Kathy DeGlopper, Libby Ponton, Ron Smith and Peggy Will.
