The Youngstown Yacht Club CanAm Challenge is back for a second year July 25-26. Hosted by the Youngstown Yacht Club, the event continues a decade's-long tradition of the Level Regatta.

The CanAm Challenge is a contest for bragging rights between U.S. and Canadian boaters sailing the Lake Ontario waters, and skaters playing in a street hockey tournament. In the inaugural regatta last year, the Canadian skippers came out victorious on the water and in the onshore street hockey tournament at the Youngstown Yacht Club.

The 2015 CanAm Challenge will kick off with a village appreciation street party from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday, July 23, on Main Street between Lockport and Hinman streets. The festivities will include live music by Jerry Andres and his band, as well as food, regatta T-shirt and regalia sales. The evening includes a 7 p.m. welcome and blessing to officially launch the second annual challenge.

The CanAm continues at the Youngstown Yacht Club on Friday, July 24, with the band Element featuring Melissa Barry and Ray O'Keefe playing from 7:30 until 11 p.m. Beverages will be provided by sponsors Double Cross Vodka and Flying Bison Beer, along with food and regalia sales. Saturday will feature a street hockey tournament at 6 p.m., live music, beverages and a chicken dinner for competitors.

One-design boat classes registered include 8 metres, J24, J22, Beneteau 10R, Beneteau 36.7, J27, J105, J70, J88, Melges 24, Laser 28 and sharks. Any class with five boats registered will compete as a one-design class; all other boats will participate in a pursuit race with both spinnaker and nonflying sails classes.

The CanAm Challenge serves as the U.S. championship for the shark class, and part of "North Sails Summer of Fun" series for the J22 class.
