Mount St. Mary's Hospital's Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine is the first center in the Niagara Falls and Buffalo area to receive full national accreditation with the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society. The facility is operated in collaboration with Precision Health Care of Boca Raton, Florida, which also operates centers that are accredited in Olean and Rochester.

"The application for accreditation is a rigorous process, and full accreditation is awarded to those centers that meet the highest standards in the industry, practice evidence-based medicine and achieve high patient outcomes and patient satisfaction scores," said Marc Kaiser, president and CEO of Precision. "Precision has been involved with the planning, development and as the management partner of the center at Mount St. Mary's since it opened in 2005.

"Achieving national accreditation is validation of the high quality of care delivered at the center (and) for the valuable service the wound center provides to the community."

Kaiser credited the support received from former Mount St. Mary's President and CEO Judith Maness and current President and CEO Gary Tucker for the establishment and growth of the facility. Since opening, more than 15,000 hyperbaric treatments have been performed at the center.

Dr. Jennifer Adamson, who was directly involved with the survey and has been involved with the Center since 2006, is the medical director at the Mount St. Mary's Center. "We are very excited that our hard work has succeeded in obtaining this important accreditation," she said.

Tucker acknowledged Precision is instrumental in the successes of the hospital's Wound Healing Center.

"This accreditation exemplifies Mount St. Mary's commitment to providing comprehensive wound care services to our population," he said. "Precision is a longtime partner in this service line at Mount St. Mary's and we are aligned on the delivery of patient outcomes, patient satisfaction and quality care."

There are approximately 1,000 wound centers in the 4,600 hospitals in the U.S. Mount St. Mary's becomes the 216th hyperbaric program to earn UHMS accreditation.

The wound center provides advanced therapies for patients with chronic, difficult-to-heal wounds. It provides hyperbaric oxygen therapy as one of the adjunctive treatments. The hospital said any wound that has not progressed in healing in two weeks will benefit from the wound specialists and quality care offered at the Mount St. Mary's Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine.

The center features three on-site hyperbaric chambers. Dr. Lujean Jennings, Dr. Judy Wesolowski and Dr. Rosie Byers also are affiliated with the center and provide physician hyperbaric oversight.
