Niagara County Office for the Aging and the Niagara County Department of Health are sponsoring several local, free health workshops in July.

•Those with ongoing health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, chronic pain, arthritis or chronic anxiety are invited to a free chronic disease self-management workshop series, beginning July 9 at the Town of Niagara Community Center, 7000 Lockport Road. The sessions will run from 1 to 3:30 p.m. for six consecutive Thursdays.

The purpose of the workshop is to provide simple steps that help people better manage their health symptoms, to promote an active and fulfilling lifestyle and to feel better. Program instructors encourage caregivers to attend as well, as the program provides opportunities for caregivers to share and support each other.

•The Department of Health and the Office for the Aging will also present diabetes self-management workshop series beginning July 24 at the Wheatfield Towers, 6849 Plaza Drive, Niagara Falls. The program runs from 12:30 to 3 p.m. for six consecutive Fridays.

The workshop is designed to help participants enhance their skills to maintain active and fulfilling lifestyles. Workshop participants will improve problem-solving and decision-making skills to confront the ever-changing challenges of living with diabetes. Attendees will also learn how to improve food choices, increase physical activity and coping skills to maintain weight loss and healthy lifestyles.

To register for either program, contact NY Connects through the Office for the Aging at 716-438-3030 or the Niagara County Department of Health at 716-278-1900.
