City of North Tonawanda Mayor Arthur G. Pappas announced Friday he will run for election this November.
Pappas, a longtime Lumber City leader, was elected as alderman-at-large last fall and subsequently appointed mayor when Rob Ortt was elected to the New York State Senate.
"When I ran for office last fall, my primary goals were to improve our quality of life and grow our economic base, while keeping our taxes in check," Pappas said.
"As mayor, I have been able to ensure that vision becomes a reality," he added. "Over the course of this summer, we will see infrastructure improvements, new recreational facilities, public safety upgrades and growth of new businesses in the city.
"North Tonawanda has been a city on the rebound, and we are building on that momentum."
Pappas, a registered Republican, is the endorsed Republican, Conservative and Independence parties' candidate.
"The vast majority of my community service has been nonpartisan in nature," Pappas said. "I truly feel that I represent all the people of North Tonawanda."
Pappas and his wife, Linda, are retired Starpoint schoolteachers. They have two grown sons: Chris and Andy.
