Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-C-I-Lewiston, took a stand for Vietnam veterans in New York by helping pass a bill granting the Vietnam Veterans of America the same benefits other veterans' organizations in New York receive.

"The VVA plays a huge role in supporting our brave veterans who spent years protecting our freedom, and our Legislature should help in those efforts," Ceretto said. He is co-sponsoring the bill. "The VVA has several chapters in New York state and over 50,000 members, and deserves the same benefits as other veterans' organizations."

Assembly bill 6101 allows the VVA to receive funding for Memorial Day and Veterans Day celebrations and designates an office in the State Capitol for storage of records, flags, relics and other memorabilia, among other things. The bill has passed in both the Senate and Assembly and has now been sent to the governor's desk to be signed into law.

"The VVA should receive the same benefits as every other organization that serves our courageous military veterans. This legislation will give them the support they need to continue providing for Vietnam veterans," Ceretto said.
