Artists from five different universities to create works May 30 through June 20

Artpark has selected five cutting-edge MFA students from five different universities to complete a three-week working artists residency. It will run May 30-June 20, with the five artists living in the community and crafting their art experiences on the Artpark grounds.

Artpark encourages visitors and art classes to watch as the artists create, or to come and view the installations once they are complete. Working artists and installations are free to view.

Artists will be on site from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays beginning June 1. An installation map will become available at www.artpark.net once the artists arrive.

Tommy Coleman (Yale University), Caroline Doherty (University at Buffalo), Becky Sellinger (Virginia Commonwealth University), Ryan Pecknik (Ontario College of Art & Design) and an MFA graduate artist from Rhode Island School of Design have been selected to participate in the working artist residency program.

Tanis Winslow, Artpark's director of visual arts and family programs, said, "When Artpark opened in 1974, it was a playground for cutting-edge artists creating new and unusual art experiences for the public, in an environment that was the first of it's kind. When I think of fresh art ideas, I think of the artists coming out of grad school, creating very specific work in a very specific environment.

"I want to give venue to these new art ideas and give them an audience in the way that Artpark sought to when it first opened. I hope that this residency program is an inaugural experience and that will become an annual event at Artpark."
