Headliners include the Loved Ones, the County Orphanage, the Invaders and special guest Grammy-winner Gary Baker. For the finale, all players will take the stage for a classic jam.

49th annual Lewiston Art Festival

Lewiston's signature event features work by more than 175 exceptional artists and fine crafters.

Located just five miles north of Niagara Falls, the charming streets of picturesque Lewiston have long attracted visitors to its unique shops, restaurants and parks. Meet the artists one-on-one and enjoy more than 20,000 original works of art - including paintings, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, fiber, glass, wood, mixed media and photography.

This year's T-shirts, brochures and Web images were inspired by stained glass artist Suzanne Todaro's piece "Beams." This image, which is similar to the LCA logo, graces the cover of the new art council brochure and will be featured on T-shirts, online and in all media advertising this year.

This free event takes place from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, and Sunday, Aug. 9. Highlights include:

College Alley, featuring student artwork

•Create your own art at the Modern Art Zone using recycled materials. The LCA is partnering with Modern Recycling to lighten the festival's environmental impact.

Watch the chalk fly at the 31st annual KeyBank Chalk Walk Competition. Teams of student artists create murals and compete for cash awards, trophies and bragging rights. This year, the LCA is challenging the teams to create a coin within a 9-foot-diameter circle. The style is trompe-l'oeil.

The Chalk Walk runs from noon until 4 p.m. on Center and Fifth streets.

•The annual "Spirit of the 80's" concert begins at 6 p.m. inside Academy Park and features food, beverages, and live music - including Wall of Voodoo's Stan Ridgeway on Friday and The English Beat on Saturday.

Visitwww.thespiritoftheeighties.com for more information. Proceeds from this event will benefit the LCA, Lewiston Alumni Association and Music is Art in Niagara County.

Marble Orchard Ghost Walks

Take a walk on the dark side to explore the grim and ghastly deeds of Lewiston's best ... and worst.

Hear local ghost stories, myths, tales of tragedy, crime, murder and mystery. Secret and sinister, these events occurred a very long time ago, but the ghosts still haunt Lewiston. Step back in time with this historical and educational tour as offbeat theatrical guides take you through the historic section of the village and into the cemetery. Learn about graveyard etiquette, tombstone symbols and the people buried within.

Tours are held at 7 p.m. Saturdays, Sept. 5 through Oct. 24. They begin at the Lewiston Peace Garden, 476 Center St.

These events are held rain or shine and come with a fee ($15 for adults, $12 for LCA members and $8 for those under 12). Bring a flashlight. It gets dark early in the cemetery.

Earth Voices of the Great Spirit

Join the LCA for a celebration of traditional and contemporary Native American culture expressed through music, drumming, dance, arts, children's activities, demonstrations and storytelling. Scheduled during the Lewiston Harvest Festival, this event will promote a deeper appreciation of indigenous culture, heritage and traditions of Native peoples in this binational region.

This free event runs from noon until 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Lewiston Peace Garden, 476 Center St.

'Tribute to the Edmund Fitzgerald'

Tom Asklar, local artist and Edmund Fitzgerald enthusiast, will host the third annual "Tribute to the Edmund Fitzgerald." The American Great Lakes freighter sank during a storm on Lake Superior Nov. 10, 1975. The entire crew was lost.
