Grand Island native John R. DeGlopper passed away April 5, 2015, in Arlington, Massachusetts.
He was the husband of the late Lillian (Kleeman). The son of the late Margaret D. and John L. DeGlopper, John is survived by his daughter, Gretchen DeGlopper of Somerville, Massachusetts, and son, Craig DeGlopper of Hamburg, as well as his brothers Raymond L. (Anita), George L. (both of Grand Island) and R. Charles (Elaine) of Concord, North Carolina.
He attended Sidway School and Riverside High School before attending Cornell University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1963 to 1969.
He was employed by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets until retirement.
A memorial service for family and friends has been planned for Saturday, May 23, at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 2100 Whitehaven Road, Grand Island.
Since John's interests included gardening, nature walks, and American and world history, as well as challenging crossword and jigsaw puzzles, donations can be made to The Nature Conservancy (www.NatureConservancy.org), The Arbor Day Foundation (www.ArborDay.org) or The Red Cross (www.RedCross.org) in lieu of flowers.
