Rich Andres of North Tonawanda has announced his candidacy for a second term in the Niagara County Legislature.

Highlighting his record of fighting for the interests of North Tonawanda and continuing efforts to improve the city, he announced his candidacy to more than 100 family, friends and supporters at his recent fundraiser.

Citing his previous years on the City Council, Andres said his experience has allowed him the opportunity to bridge the gap that existed between county and city officials.

"I am committed to increasing my efforts to get the county and city to work hand in hand because we share the same citizens, all of whom benefit from an efficient and productive relationship between the county and city," he said.

He called recent efforts, such as the countywide Hazardous Waste Drop Off, great examples of cooperation in which county and city resources came together for a good cause benefitting citizens and the environment.

"North Tonawanda has a voice in county government, and I am working with my fellow legislators to make sure NT is not forgotten in county hall," Andres said. In his first term, he helped secure nearly $500,000 for the Lumber City that is being used to complete projects and improve the lives of city residents.

Referring to the financial assistance provided to community groups, Andres said, "The cultural and community organizations in this city have a friend on the legislature; we have been able to support nearly a dozen
much-needed projects so far."

Recent efforts to improve the Oliver Street corridor have gained steam. Andres led public meetings on the future of the street ensuring the peoples' voices are heard.

"We need all hands on deck when it comes to improving our area," he said. Andres said he found the residents that attended the meeting were optimistic about the future and had a desire to work toward improving the area. "Those meetings left me energized, and excited to continue making this city better," he said.

He concluded, "I love this city and I humbly ask the voters to allow me to continue to fight for them."
