Each year, Community Missions of Niagara Frontier takes an opportunity to honor the volunteers and supporters who make its work possible with its annual Compassion in Action Awards Brunch. The 23rd edition took place at the LaSalle Yacht Club in Niagara Falls Thursday afternoon.

The event honors the many volunteers who help the agency throughout the year, while also recognizing award winners from seven of the organization's departments. In addition, Executive Director Robyn L. Krueger presents a Director's Award, and the Sharon Kroetsch Memorial Award is bestowed upon a chosen board member.

Approximately 140 attendees, including Richard Soluri representing State Sen. Robert Ortt, and City of Niagara Falls Administrator Donna Owens representing Mayor Paul Dyster, honored the following award winners:

  • Katharine Sirianni-Morock, MSW and Meredith Miller, LMHC, Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center - Mental Health Housing Services Award
  • Catherine Richards, Niagara County Probation Department - Finance Award
  • Will Tompkins - Mental Health Recovery Services Award
  • Mark Keefe, New York State Office of Children and Family Services - Youth Award
  • Ken Michael, Dox Electronics Inc. - Crisis and Community Services Award
  • Angelo Sarkees, Deposits for Food - Public Relations Award
  • The Rev. Dr. Judith Lee and Patricia Walker, Niagara Deanery of the Episcopal Diocese of WNY - Ministry and Community Partnerships Award
  • Joan Lock, Lawley Agency LLC - Director's Award
  • Mary Maj, CMI board member - Sharon Kroetsch Memorial Award

Community Missions has provided the Niagara community with a wide range of vital services since 1925. In 2014, CMI provided nearly 77,000 meals and more than 10,000 nights of care within its crisis services programs. Additional agency programs serve adults and youth with psychiatric disabilities, parolees, at-risk youth and other underserved populations in both residential and recovery-oriented settings.
