Niagara River Greenway Commission determines consistency for Falls projects; tables Lewiston proposals

The Niagara River Greenway Commission has announced the results of its 43rd round of projects. At a meeting held Tuesday, the commission voted on the following projects as they relate to the principals, goals and criteria that define the Niagara River Greenway Plan.

  • City of Niagara Falls - Hyde Park shoreline and upland improvements - Consistent
  • City of Niagara Falls - Niagara Riverview Trail improvements 53rd St. node - Consistent
  • Town of Lewiston - Kiwanis Park courts restoration - Tabled
  • Town of Lewiston - Colonial Village Park playground project - Tabled
  • Erie County- Amos Sangster and Annie Crawford Memorial markers - Tabled

The next step for the project sponsors is to seek funding through conventional grant and endowment sources as well as the various Greenway standing committees.

The Niagara River Greenway Commission is a public benefit corporation established by Chapter 460 of the laws of 2004, and charged with the planning and development of a greenway of interconnected parks, river access points and waterfront trails along the Niagara River from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario at the site of the historic Fort Niagara.
