The Sentinel originally ran this public service announcement last summer. Because some residents still haven't taken the message to heart, we present it again in the hope walkers can safely cross these streets.

The Village of Lewiston and the Lewiston Police Department are cracking down on motorists ignoring the Center Street crosswalks. Drivers failing to yield to pedestrians will be subject to a moving violation and a fine to be set in the Town of Lewiston Court.

Pedestrians have the right of way when crossing:

•Center Street at Eighth Street

•Center and Seventh streets

•In front of the Stone House (just past the Rite-Aid plaza exit)

•In front of Apple Granny Restaurant

If you see a vehicle stopped at a crosswalk, please do not try and drive around it. Please be patient and let the people cross to the other side of the road.
