The CW Network announced the second annual "World Dog Awards," hosted by George Lopez, will return in January 2016, honoring man's best friend in a celebration with some of the most famous four-legged stars and the humans who love them. An airdate and time will be announced at a later date.

The "World Dog Awards" honors some of the most talented and laudable pups on the planet, from furry film stars to social media darlings. Awards will include A List Dog, for the celebrity dog who made the biggest impact in media; Top TV Dog; Most Pawpular, awarded to the most famous dogs in social media; and Dog of the Year. Special recognition will be given to service dogs, animal shelters around the country and celebrity advocates.

Viewers will have a chance to submit their own nominees on cwtv.com for their favorite cute canine YouTube stars, for best Performing Pups.

Last year's "World Dog Awards" winners ranged from viral sensations Hank T. Dog, the unofficial adopted mascot of the Milwaukee Brewers, who won Dog of the Year, and TV star dogs such as "Modern Family" celebrity dog "Stella," to everyday dogs who made a positive impact in their communities.

"The Vampire Diaries" star Ian Somerhalder was the recipient of the ASPCA Dog's Best Friend Award at the inaugural event.
