Grand Island resident Emma MacIntyre named a Charles O. Thompson Scholar

Worcester Polytechnic Institute has announced Emma MacIntyre of Grand Island, a first-year student majoring in biomedical engineering, has been named a Charles O. Thompson Scholar for the 2014-15 academic year.

Named in honor of the first president of WPI, this honor recognizes outstanding performance by first-year students. To be eligible for membership, students must achieve all As and Bs (with a minimum of six A's) in their academic subjects during their first three terms at WPI.

Founded in 1865 in Worcester, Massachusetts, WPI is one of the nation's first engineering and technology universities. Its 14 academic departments offer more than 50 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in science, engineering, technology, business, the social sciences and the humanities and arts, leading to bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees.
