Whether you love to sail or prefer to keep your feet on solid ground, the 16th annual Jack Beatty Memorial Hospice Cruise and Clambake has something for you. The Cruise and Clambake, held rain or shine, is scheduled for Friday, July 10, at the Youngstown Yacht Club. Registration is now open for the event.

Members of the Youngstown Yacht Club, along with other skippers from around Western New York, will once again donate their boats and time to take cruise participants for an afternoon sail up the Niagara River.

During the sail, participants will enjoy snacks and drinks provided by the boat owners, with live music provided by The Junkyard Dogs on the river for the yachts sailing by. After the sail, the fun continues at the YYC with a clambake and buffet with all the trimmings, along with live music by Soul Committee. The evening at the YYC also includes a silent auction with gifts donated by local businesses and community members.

The Cruise and Clambake has grown tremendously over the years. All proceeds benefit Niagara Hospice. With a sellout record of 39 boats and 238 participants, the event raised a record of $40,000 in 2014.

"This is a terrific event and we are so thankful to the numerous businesses and everyone in the community who make it such a great success year after year," co-chair Adam Burns said. "We are looking forward to another great year in 2015. It is such a great time for a very worthy cause."

Corporate sponsors for the 2015 event include Sevenson Environmental Services, Modern Disposal, Compu-Mail and the Youngstown Yacht Club.

Due to the record number of attendees in 2014, organizers anticipate the cruise portion of the event to sell out for the third year in a row. Partygoers are encouraged to sign up early.

Landlubbers and those working during the day can also partake in the fun. Tickets are available for the Clambake/Cookout portion of the event that begins around 5:30 p.m.

Details and registration on both events can be found at www.niagarahospiceregatta.com. To volunteer, sponsor, place an ad or donate items for the event, contact Maureen Rizzo at [email protected] or call 716-280-0728.

Niagara Hospice has provided end-of-life comfort, care and support since 1988 to more than 21,000 Niagara County individuals and families faced with terminal illness.
