On Aug. 24, 2012, Ken Kalinowski, a lifelong Western New Yorker and Grand Island resident, was diagnosed with stage-4 colon cancer. After multiple surgeries and rounds of chemotherapy, Kalinowski had to stop working in May of 2014. The overwhelming costs of medical care and the impact of lost wages took a major toll on the family. In March of 2015, he lost his battle with cancer, however the financial burden remains.
Saturday, April 25, a benefit will be held in Ken's honor to help take care of his family. This was his dying wish. The benefit will be held at the Knights of Columbus Mary Star of the Sea Council No. 4752, 1841 Whitehaven Road, on Grand Island. There will be live music, food, beer, basket raffles, auctions and special guests. The benefit will run from 1 to 6 p.m. The cost is $25.
Those who cannot attend the benefit but who would like to help can visit www.caring4ken.org where they can make a donation.
