Company launches campaign with social media contest

Leveraging the power of social media to promote Earth Day, National Grid will launch its "Pledge to Save Energy Sweepstakes" tomorrow, challenging the nearly 7 million U.S. residents in its service areas to take a pledge to make greener choices and share them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, with #GridGoesGreen #Sweeps.

The sweepstakes will begin at 12:00:01 p.m. ET April 22 and ends at 11:59:59 p.m. ET June 30. Five winners will be drawn randomly on a biweekly basis, and will receive a National Grid energy saving pack worth approximately $250. The grand prize will be drawn July 1. The winner will receive a $2,500 prize to continue supporting sustainable energy choices.

To enter, follow National Grid on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Then write your energy-saving pledge in the spirit of raising energy conservation awareness, and post or share your original idea (tagging @NationalGrid) with the hashtags #GridGoesGreen and #Sweeps. Each eligible participant is allowed one entry per social media platform, for a total of three.

"Every day is Earth Day at National Grid, and we're excited to have a contest showing what customers are pledging to do to save energy and help protect the environment," said Dean Seavers, executive director and president of National Grid U.S. "I'm personally looking forward to seeing our companies volunteer efforts side-by-side with our customers, as it will take the actions of corporations and individuals to create a more sustainable future."

National Grid also continues its annual commitment to sponsoring Earth Day events, with more than 500 volunteer employees participating in 14 community events throughout the month of April. These efforts will help revitalize local communities served by the company, give back to the community and promote protecting the environment for future generations. Events will be held in Albany, Brooklyn, Buffalo, Camillus, Niagara Falls and Long Island, New York.; West Warwick, Rhode Island; and Boston, Haverhill, Cape Cod, Methuen and Worcester, Massachusetts.

Sweepstakes disclaimers: No purchase necessary. Open to U.S. residents 18 and older in National Grid's service areas of Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island. Void where prohibited. See rules for details: www.facebook.com/nationalgrid.
