Niagara County Sheriff James Voutour offered a small update late Friday on the Errick Road gunfight that took place earlier in the day. At the time, investigators were still casing the outside of the house where the incident occurred, 6871 Errick Road. The crime scene spanned a large area, because of the outdoor gunfire exchange, with bullets ending up in nearby buildings.

The male victim had three guns registered to his name and two guns were found inside the house, Voutour said. Without ballistics tests, he could not confirm which, if either, was the weapon used during the incident.

Voutour also offered more details on the 911 call, calling it "bone-chilling." He revealed the two victims, believed but not confirmed to be the suspect's parents, were shot prior to making the first 911 call. Both the suspect and victims lived in the house.

He praised the dispatchers, who kept the frightened woman on the phone and advised her on tending her and her husband's gunshot wounds. Voutour revealed they were shot in the upper body/neck area.

The sheriff's office was on scene 11 minutes after the 911 call was made.
At the time of the press conference, around 7:30 p.m., the husband and wife were going into surgery at ECMC. They were conscious when they were removed from the scene.

Voutour said the names of the suspect and victims were being withheld until family was notified and will likely be released Saturday. The deputy's name is also not being released at this time.

"I just want to give him a chance to play with his kids tonight, hang out with his wife, just relax," Voutour said.

He said counseling is available for all of the officers who responded to the scene, adding the scene inside the house, where the suspect's body was found and the victims were shot, was "extremely graphic."

Police now have a search warrant for the house, but they were focusing the investigation on the outside while daylight remained.

Other updated information/corrections:

•Immediately after, not during, the gunfight, the deputy called in to have the school closed.

•Ages: the suspect was 25 years old. The two victims are in their late 50s.
