Obit: Joseph R. Muoio

Joseph R. Muoio, 91, of Grand Island died Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at DeGraff Memorial Hospital in North Tonawanda.

Born in Niagara Falls, he was one of 13 children of the late Dominic and Angelina (Mancuso) Muoio.

Joseph attended local schools and during World War II he served in the United States Marine Corps from Feb. 10, 1943, when he participated in action at Okinawa. He was honorably discharged May 11, 1946. In September 1956, he married Patricia (Connolly) Muoio at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Niagara Falls.

Joseph was employed by Sears Roebuck and worked at many stores throughout Western New York for over 45 years in many capacities, from clerk to managing various departments. He was an avid golfer and sports fan, but most importantly, he was devoted to the care and wellbeing of his family.

In addition to his wife of 58 years, he is survived by six children, Judy (Ron) Link of Grand Island; Richard (Lori) Muoio of Richmond, Virginia; Patty (Jorge) Ramirez and Janice (Rob) Gaynor, both of Orlando, Florida; Dan (Lana) Muoio of Atlanta, Georgia; and Michael (Debbie) Muoio of Carey, North Carolina; 17 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers: Frank N. Muoio, Dominic (late Marie) Muoio, Nicholas (late Dorothy) Muoio, Anthony (late Nora) Muoio and eight sisters Christine (late Anthony) Elia, Isabel (late Sylvester) Scollin, Mary Junquera, Alvina (late Jack) Roberti, Frances (late Frank) Muoio, Rosemary (late Michael) Masco, Louise (late Reno) Galdini and Anna (late Michael "Mickey") Presutti.

Visitation was held Friday, March 27, at M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, March 28, in St. Stephen R.C. Church, 2100 Baseline Road. Interment with military honors in St. Stephen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association of WNY, 2805 Wehrle Drive, Suite, 6, Williamsville, NY 14221.
