Spring has finally arrived in Lewiston and, with it, the 20th annual Lewiston Family Spring Fling. This is the way to celebrate winter's end and to renew old friendships or make new ones.
Spring Fling is scheduled for 1-4 p.m. Sunday, April 26, at the Red Brick School, 145 N. Fourth St. The Village of Lewiston Recreation Department sponsors the rain-or-shine event.
The Spring Fling committee has kept the favorites this year. The event will open with a Lewiston Kiwanis and Lewiston Service Guild one mile run for youths ages 14 and under. Registration will start at 11:45 a.m. at the Onondaga Street end of the Red Brick. The race will start at 12:30 p.m. It is all on flat ground. Race shirts courtesy of the Lewiston Kiwanis Club and Lewiston Service Guild will be given to the first 100 registering.
Youths must fill out an application form with a parent's signature. Parents can run the course with the younger runners. Awards will be given out in age categories. There is no fee for the race.
The Rec. Dept. is looking for volunteers to help with racecourse safety.
Starting at 1 p.m. there will be a street art contest for all school ages. The theme for this year is "Recycle." Chalk will be provided and competition will be judged at approximately 3 p.m.
The basket auction will run from 1-3:30 p.m. with a wide selection of prizes available (including Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours, Artpark, Maid of the Mist, Old Fort Niagara, Buffalo Bisons and Castellani Art Museum tickets).
Asylum Productions will provide music. Activities at the event include a petting zoo, Putt-Putt golf, face-painting, balloon sculpture as well as Bounce-n-Around.
Bring a dessert to pass. Hot dogs and drinks will be provided at no charge.
The event is open to all. There is no charge for the events.
