Western New York Adaptive Water Sports embarks on a new summer season of sports that are accessible for the disabled.

Calling Canalside home base, the organization will again offer sailing and fishing excursions every Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to noon beginning June 13. There will be four waterski clinics (June, July, August and September), which include Jet Ski rides and tubing. A festival for paddle sports enthusiasts featuring kayaks, canoes and paddleboard will be happening at Gallagher Beach at Buffalo's Outer Harbor in August.

With accessibility in mind, the organization strives to assist all populations from the developmentally disabled, to veterans, to the able-bodied. No group or person is to be left out of these sports.

Planning for a smooth ride into the summer months, the organization is preparing to offer these activities and services for free. Run by volunteers, it is a registered non-profit. To help defer the costs of gasoline, boat dock/storage fees, and insurance, a fundraiser, "Pig Roast, Beer and Gun Raffle," is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, May 16 at the Col. Weber VFW Post on 2909 South Park Ave., Lackawanna.

Visit www.wnyadaptivewatersports.org or contact Islander Gayle Nowak at 573-4723 for pig roast and raffle tickets.
