Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-C-I-Lewiston, released the following statement upon the State Senate passing bipartisan legislation to legalize professional mixed martial arts for the fourth straight year:
"The governor has indicated his support for legalized professional MMA, so the only thing standing between New York and professional MMA is a vote in the state Assembly. I am hopeful that the Assembly's new leadership will bring the legislation, which I co-sponsor, to the floor for a vote, unlike past years when former Speaker Sheldon Silver blocked it.
"This issue has long been a priority of mine as the ranking member of the Assembly's tourism, parks, arts and sports development committee, because of its ability to bring additional attractions to the tourist economy in Niagara Falls. I will continue working hard to finally pass this long-overdue legislation."
