Prior to conducting regular town business Monday night at Town Hall, the Grand Island Town Board issued a town proclamation to Boy Scout Nolan Miles of Grand Island for receiving his Eagle Scout award. Miles, a senior at Grand Island High School and a Boy Scout for 12 years, is a member of Troop 630, which is sponsored by St. Stephen R.C. Church and led by Scoutmaster Scott Swagler.

To earn his Eagle Scout award, Miles led family, friends and fellow Scouts over two weekends as they scraped and painted the Community Center at the Nike Base, where the Scout troops meet. In making the proclamation, the Town Board noted the work required a total of 150 man-hours to complete.

Miles received his Eagle Scout award at a court of honor held March 1. The board extended its "sincerest congratulations and best wishes" to Miles on the achievement of his Eagle Scout rank. He is pictured receiving the proclamation from Town Supervisor Mary Cooke and is joined by his parents, Susan and Mark, as well as councilmen Gary Roesch, Chris Aronica and Ray Billica.
