Polar Bear Swim: Frigid fun in Olcott

Wed, Mar 4th 2015 04:55 pm

The 46th annual Olcott Lions Club "Swim For Sight" was good, cold fun Sunday at Krull County Park in Olcott Beach. Even in North Pole-like conditions, 344 swimmers of all ages - as well as tailgaters, spectators and area fire companies - came out to support Lions projects and local community organizations.

The day featured brisk pre-swim tailgating on the hamlet streets, a tug-of-war between local fire companies and a firemen's chili cook-off on Main Street. Lewiston No. 1 Volunteer Fire Co. and Upper Mountain Fire Co. won the test of strength, while Pekin took top chili honors.

Ashley Warren of Ransomville was chosen as 2015 Polar Bear Queen. (Photos by Terry Duffy and Wayne Peters; see more in our gallery)
