The person who coined the term "Jill of all trades" was clearly referring to Jillian Zaccarella.

The owner of Tuscana, she is a walking, talking, one-woman salon and spa. From cutting hair to trimming nails and smoothing out stress, she is master of all things indulgent.

"Most people only have one license," she said. "I have a license for everything. I have a massage license. I have a cosmetology license and I have an esthetician license, which is really hard to find. It's rare, because most people don't have that schooling. Plus, I have an associate's degree. So I'm kind of well-rounded."

Such specialized education is uncommon. So, too, is Zaccarella's business. It's one of few second-story Village of Lewiston establishments. It has three pedicure stations, which (I'm told) is unheard of in the spa game, and a top-notch hair-removal machine.

"This is my passion," she said of what's in the back rooms. "This is my focus; this is where my heart is. I'm back here most of the time."

In the left room, Zaccarella offers Swedish, deep-tissue and hot-stone massages.

"My main thing is massage," she said. "I love to help people."

One of her clients is Sandy Hays Mies, the River Region's most famous event planner.

"Massage therapy ... what a great way to totally relax and unwind," Mies said. "My husband, John, and I have regularly used Jillian's services for several years. Her massages are second to none. We got our first massages from Jillian when she was renting a small room in a local chiropractor's office. It has been a thrill to see her business grow from one rented room to a full-scale spa that is all her own."

Across the hallway, Zaccarella split one large room into two smaller units: one is for esthetics (microdermabrasion and chemical peels) and another is for "My love," as she called it, "my YAG laser. It does IPL (intense pulsed light) facials, photo facials and laser hair removal. This is my baby."

"I spent a lot of time researching and a lot of money with this, so this is what I really want to focus on is doing laser hair removal. I have a laser tech, Erica Browning; she's fantastic. She does all the laser services.

"I don't do laser, but I've had laser treatments done, and they are great! (Laughs.)"

Such treatments can be pricey, but "It's worth it," Zaccarella said. "I had my arms done. I've had one treatment and I have, like, no hair on my arms. It's worth every penny. It really is."

The YAG room also has equipment for noninvasive slimming and fat-loss procedures. Zaccarella said she hopes to bring in a doctor to administer Botox.

One room over, Zaccarella has the three-basin mani-pedi room. This is where customers find Bridgit Sherman, a nail care specialist who also cuts hair.

"I want to be able to accommodate everybody," Zaccarella said. "I want everybody to be able to experience something. Why not get it all done in one place, instead of just going to one place for one thing?"

Zaccarella's one-top-shop didn't happen overnight.

"I designed all this," she said of her mani-pedi centerpiece. "My window treatment. The floor - actually broke up the old tile myself and laid the subfloor. My husband (Tony) put the tile in."

"I wanted to accommodate more and do more," Zaccarella added. "I wanted multiple rooms and I wanted to do multiple services."

"When Jillian puts her mind and energy into something, she can really make it work," client Sandy Rykiel said. "The new renovations that Jillian and her husband, Tony, have done on their own is amazing. The salon has a totally new look; it is very modern and upscale, which fits perfect into our beautiful Village of Lewiston."

"She is the best massage therapist I have ever been to, and I have been to several different ones," Rykiel added. "Her stylist, Bridgit, is also excellent, with hair color, high- and lowlights, as well as nails and skin treatments. The two of them make an excellent pair; they both take great pride in their work and enjoy making both men and women feel and look beautiful by the time they leave Tuscana."

"One doesn't need to leave the village to get the feel and services of a big-city spa," Mies said. "She is a top-notch professional. Her price points provide great value and we often buy amazingly priced packages that allow us to enjoy massages year-round and not just for a treat after a long work week. Over the years, she has also become a friend. I highly recommend Jillian and Tuscana Salon."

"I love wellness," Zaccarella said. "I love to help people. And it's all about the experience. If you can feel good, then you are good."
