Unique treadmill race offers $1,000 in prize money April 4

IMPACT Sports Performance Director Jason Jerome has announced plans for the 2015 IMPACT Sports Performance Woodway Curve Challenge, a unique treadmill-based race. The event begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 4, inside IMPACT's 5,000-square-foot facility at HARBORCENTER in downtown Buffalo.

"The Woodway Curve treadmill is the most advanced treadmill on the market," Jerome said. "As our facility features eight of these dynamic, non-motorized machines, this is a perfect opportunity for area runners to experience their unique characteristics while taking part in a challenge-style race that tests each athlete's fitness and endurance levels. The Curve Challenge has been extremely popular while conducted by the Woodway company at numerous fitness expos around the country. We are very proud that IMPACT and HARBORCENTER will now be the first private facility to conduct one of these races and support the expansion of this incredible challenge."

The Woodway Curve Challenge is a timed race where runners compete in teams of three on unique treadmills that are powered solely by the individual runner. Each team has 20 minutes to compile as much mileage as possible while alternating turns on the treadmill. During the 20-minute session, runners typically sprint for an average of 20-30 seconds before stepping off of the treadmill on one side, while one of their teammates enters on the opposite side and furthers the treadmill's continuous momentum. The team that amasses the most mileage traveled at the end of the 20-minute race will be awarded a $600 grand prize. The race's second-place team will earn $300, while the third-place prize will be $150. The race will be conducted in heats of eight teams, beginning at 9 a.m.

Interested teams can register online by using the link below. Each team participant will receive an IMPACT Sports Performance technical performance T-shirt, two tickets to the Buffalo Bandits April 4 game against the New England Black Wolves, and post-challenge refreshments. The cost of registration will be $105 per team.
