The Honorable Sara Sheldon, Niagara County Judge, swore in the 2015 officers and board members of the Wheatfield Business Association at its Jan. 26 meeting. Elections were conducted at the association's Christmas/holiday party on Dec. 8, held at the Meeting Place following a banquet.

At the Jan. 26 meeting, after dinner was served at Yubb's Restaurant, Sheldon began the installation. Sworn in at the banquet as the WBA's 2015 leadership were: Rob Allen as president, Jim Candella as vice president, Sharon DiPasquale as treasurer, Danny Maerten as secretary, two-year term board member Gilles Dube and one-year board members Michelle Caswell and Neal Klettke. Afterward, Sheldon gave several updates and programs at the Niagara County Courthouse. One program in particular, the recently administered Veterans Court, brought much interest and attentiveness. Jim Candella of Candella Countryside Landscaping was named as the WBA's Businessperson of the Year; he is celebrating his 30th anniversary in business. Summit Park Pharmacy was selected as the Business of the Year because of its involvement in the community and with Wheatfield's citizens.

This year's scholarship committee, with Maerten as chairman, was introduced, and because last year's meat raffle was another success, scholarships will again be available to high school graduating seniors in Wheatfield. Information on applications will be forthcoming. The next meat raffle fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17.

The Wheatfield Business Association is always looking for new members to provide new ideas, thoughts and assistance with the development of the business environment in Wheatfield and to serve in community endeavors. For information on membership and/or scholarships, contact Maerten at 716-731-3696.
