Free community lipid panel (cholesterol) screening Feb. 8
Mount St. Mary's Hospital will celebrate Heart Month in February with its annual lipid panel screening Sunday, Feb. 8, and continuing with a series of events throughout the month.
Activities begin Feb. 8 at 6 a.m. in the north lobby of the hospital at 5300 Military Road with the lipid panel screening. The tests run until 10:30 a.m. They being conducted by the hospital and will cover cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL and LDL. Results will be mailed directly to the home of individual tested.
Last year when Mount St. Mary's Hospital conducted its free screening, more than 300 people took part.
As part of the morning, cardiologist Dr. Zina Hajduczok will offer educational programs at 8 and 9:30 a.m. In addition, certified diabetes educator Debra Hoffman will provide diabetes and nutrition information throughout the morning. The sessions will be held in Room 249. There will be several stations for testing and no reservations will be taken. Those planning to take the test are reminded this is a fasting test. Individuals should not eat upon arising and prior to this test. For more information, call 716-298-2145.

•From Feb. 9-11, the cardiology department will have a series of displays in the main (south) lobby featuring information on heart health, diabetes, nutrition, stroke and physical rehabilitation. The displays will be available from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
•From Feb. 10-12, the popular "Taking Charge of Diabetes" program will be held from 6-9 p.m. nightly. Hoffman will lead the program in Room 249. Call 716-298-2297 to register.
On Wednesday, Feb. 25, Chief of Cardiology Dr. Benjamin Rueda will present "High Blood Pressure: Recent Treatment Guidelines" at 6:30 p.m. in Room 249. Advance registration for this free program is requested. Call 716-298-2145.
