Event welcomes chocolate fountain from Karen Goodman Catering

Heart of Niagara Animal Rescue is putting final plans in place for "A Taste of The Niagara Region," its fundraiser taking place this Saturday, Jan. 31. The event will run from noon until 3 p.m. at The Conference & Event Center, 101 Old Falls St., Niagara Falls.

HON has announced yet another participant is on board to lend support to what will be a major benefit for the rescue. Karen Goodman Catering joins the list of more than 30 participating restaurants, caterers and bakeries providing samples of main dishes, appetizers and desserts. Karen Goodman Catering will bring its famous chocolate fountain to the event.

A $20 pre-sale food ticket will enable holders to sample this delectable sweet treat, along with other delicious foods, desserts and beverages from Bailey O'Riley's Village Pub, Baked Cupcakery, Big Cookie Cakes Bakery, The Brickyard Pub & B.B.Q., Brio Pizzeria, Carmine's Catering, The Como Restaurant, Conference & Event Center Catering, D&M Confections, De La Casa Mexican Restaurant, Donna Eick's, Favorite's Pizzeria, Formal BBQ and Event Catering, Four Points by Sheraton Niagara Falls - Bella Vista Ristorante, Gino's Italian Bakery, Griffon Gastropub, Honey's Pizza, Johnnie Ryan Company, Kohinoor Fine Indian Cuisine, La Galera Mexican Restaurant, Legend's Bar & Grill, Mangia Café and Bakery, Niagara University College of Hospitality and Tourism Management, One Eyed Jack's, Orange Cat Coffee Company, Paula's Donuts, Rain Forest Café at Sheraton at The Falls, Savor Restaurant at Niagara Falls Culinary Institute, The Spicey Pickle Mexican Restaurant, Sweet Melody's Gelato, The Village Bake Shoppe, Tim Hortons (Niagara Falls locations) and Water Street Landing.

Guests will vote on their favorite dish at the event and then name "The Best of the 3rd Annual 'A Taste of the Niagara Region.' " Formal BBQ and Catering took the title in 2014.

In addition to food samples, more than $1,000 in prizes will be up for grabs in a large basket auction. Take a chance for a Jim Kelly No. 12 Buffalo Bills jersey, an autographed Buffalo Bills football by C.J. Spiller, a Buffalo Bills laser-signed photograph by Bills back Fred Jackson and another laser-signed photograph by Aaron Williams.

Prize packages were donated by Western New York tourism destinations Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Becker Farms & Vizcarra Vineyards, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra at Kleinhans Music Hall, Corning Museum of Glass, Greek Peak Mountain Resort's Indoor Water Park, Martin's Fantasy Island and Niagara University (theater department, hockey and basketball). Win an overnight stay at The Barton Hill Hotel and Spa, a Moondance Summer Cruise for 40, or an "experience" prize consisting of a WGRZ-TV studio tour and a live viewing of the 5 p.m. evening news.

Pre-sale tickets are $20 per person; a paying adult must accompany anyone under age 18. Tickets may be purchased on the HON website at www.heartofniagara.org. Tickets will be held at the door to save on postage costs.

Net proceeds from this event will allow the animal rescue's good works to continue. A portion of the funds will go toward the purchase of a building, so that even more animals can be placed in loving, adoptive homes.

Heart of Niagara is a 501(c) 3, not-for-profit companion animal rescue organization based in Niagara County. Its mission is to protect the health and welfare of abandoned, unwanted and homeless animals. To date, volunteers have adopted out more than 265 animals.
