The Historical Association of Lewiston presents "Buffalo Steam Yachts from the Gilded Age" as its monthly program. John Montague, president of the Buffalo Maritime Center and author of the recent Western New York Heritage Magazine article "Buffalo Steam Yachts of the Gilded Age," will share his research on the extravagant steam yachts that appeared in and around Buffalo at the turn of the 20th century. The event takes place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at Lutheran Church of the Messiah, 915 Oneida St., Lewiston.

At turn of the century, Buffalo could boast the highest per capita population of millionaires in the nation. In a PowerPoint presentation, Montague will discuss the design and construction of these vessels examined in the context of Buffalo's social, economic and maritime heritage.

The event is free to attend and open to all. Refreshments will be served.
