Niagara Active Hose Fire Co. was commended for 75 years of service at Wednesday's Town of Niagara Town Board meeting.

"It's all volunteer. It takes quite a bit of time out of people's lives, so I commend anyone that does volunteer work like firemen. It's amazing," said Councilman Charles Teixeira.

"I also want to thank all the gentlemen who ever worked for Niagara No. 1 Fire Co. over the years that served our community when we had two fire companies. I'm sure there's plenty of people over the years that have served this community that deserve the respect as much as Active Hose," he added. "I thank every one of those gentlemen and all the new people that continue to join."

Other council members also thanked the company.

"Myself being a former volunteer fireman ... it does mean a lot to see the appreciation firemen receive," said Councilman Rob Clark. "They get called away from dinner and family events in the middle of the night to answer the call, so on behalf of the fire department, thank you."

"The work they do is to be commended and I want to thank this board for not only renewing the agreement, but continuing their support for the most needy in our town."

•Supervisor Lee Wallace reported the Belden Center project is moving forward and the town aims to start it this summer.

•The board's next meeting was rescheduled from Feb. 17 to Feb. 14.
