Waste Management, parent company of CWM Chemical Services in Porter, recently delivered blankets to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office. Lori Caso, WM public affairs spokesperson, said it was only fitting they were delivered Wednesday, Jan. 14 - the coldest day this year thus far in Western New York.

Waste Management donated blankets to the sheriff's office for use during this winter season as part of the "Blankets Across North America" campaign.

"Waste Management has donated over 500 blankets to market areas throughout North America - 25 of those blankets made their way to Niagara County," Caso said. "We thought donating them to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office was a wise move, since many times they are the first to encounter someone caught in freezing and life-threatening conditions."

Waste Management kicked off Blankets Across North America in late 2014. The initiative was inspired by WM driver Arnold Harvey, who was recognized nationally on a TV special called "Thank You America" hosted by "Good Morning America's" Robin Roberts. Harvey would stop and assist homeless people as part of his route.
